Medeama SC continued their relentless march towards the Ghana Premier League crown with a statement 3–1 victory over Karela United at the TnA Stadium in Tarkwa yesterday, extending their lead at the top to a commanding eight points.
Right-back Kamaradini Mamudu was the star of the show, firing in a sensational brace, while Derrick Fordjour added a third goal to keep Ibrahim Tanko’s side unbeaten in 17 matches.
With 43 points from 20 games, the Mauve and Yellow are cruising, leaving Aduana FC and Asante Kotoko trailing on 35 points each.
Kotoko, determined not to let the title slip away, ended a three-game winless run in style with a 3–0 demolition of Basake Holy Stars at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Samba O’Neil opened the scoring from the spot, Albert Amoah marked his return with a jaw-dropping overhead kick, and Kwame Opoku capped the display with a stunning bicycle kick. Kotoko now sit third and are clinging to slim title hopes.
Aduana Stars bounced back from their recent setback with a clinical 2–0 away win over Swedru All Blacks at the Swedru Stadium. Benjamin Tsivanyo struck in both halves to seal the points and keep the ‘Ogya’ lads firmly in fourth, eight points behind Medeama.
The defeat ended All Blacks’ unbeaten home run and extended their winless streak to three games.
Down at the bottom, the drama continued. Hohoe United and Vision FC played out a thrilling 2–2 draw that did little to ease their relegation anxieties. Sena Ati and substitute Lawson Bekui scored for the hosts, while Sam-An Mohammed and Emmanuel Sanja kept Vision in contention for a vital away win, only to see their hopes dashed in the dying minutes.
Dreams FC were held to a hard-fought 1–1 draw by Young Apostles at the Tuba Astroturf Park. Kumah Kofi’s second-half strike looked set to give Dreams FC the win, but Richmond Coka’s quick reply earned the visitors a precious point.
Dreams FC remain unbeaten in four, while Young Apostles continue to linger perilously in the relegation zone.
Former champions FC Samartex 1996 maintained their fortress-like home form, defeating Nations FC 2–0 at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena, Samreboi. Christian Agyenim Boateng converted a penalty, and Kwaku Owusu added a clinical second to keep the home fans celebrating.
Bechem United returned to winning ways with a 1–0 victory over Kpando Heart of Lions at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Stadium. Augustine Okrah was the match-winner once again, scoring just four minutes in for his seventh league goal of the season.
Lions, who had briefly ended an eight-game winless run last week, could not sustain momentum and remain seventh on 27 points. Bechem now set their sights on an away clash with Hearts of Oak.
Last Saturday, Hearts of Oak continued their upward surge with an emphatic 3–0 victory over Eleven Wonders at the University of Ghana Stadium.
Mawuli Wayo set the tone with an early strike in the eighth minute, Martin Karikari doubled the lead midway through the second half, and Kelvin Asibey wrapped up the win with a calm penalty.
The result leaves Eleven Wonders rooted to the foot of the table, their relegation fears mounting by the week.
