US, Ghana Deepen security cooperation to tackle crime and cyber threats

The Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in Ghana, H.E. Rolf Olson, has held talks with the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation on security and law enforcement.

The meeting focused on key security challenges including criminal activity, cybercrime, and the need to enhance the operational capacity of law enforcement agencies in Ghana.

H.E. Olson expressed appreciation for the Interior Minister’s collaborative approach, stressing the importance of consistency in security efforts and strict adherence to the rule of law as essential pillars for maintaining peace and stability.

He reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to supporting Ghana’s security sector, noting that sustained cooperation remains critical in addressing evolving security threats.

Hon. Muntaka, in response, thanked the US Embassy for its continued support and partnership, assuring the government’s readiness to work closely with the United States to combat crime and safeguard national security.

The Minister further highlighted Ghana’s commitment to strengthening institutional capacity, particularly through training and skills development for law enforcement officers. He emphasised that capacity-building initiatives remain a priority in improving professionalism and effectiveness within the security services.

Both sides also discussed plans to continue training programmes for security personnel, reinforcing their shared resolve to deepen collaboration in addressing emerging security challenges.
