The Minister of Works, Housing and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has disclosed that the National Rental Assistance Scheme facilitated rent advance payments for 2,031 Ghanaians across its six operational regions in 2025.

According to him, the 2025 figure brought the total number of beneficiaries to 4,732 since the scheme was launched in 2023.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, Adjei explained that the scheme, which forms part of the government’s efforts to improve access to affordable housing, is currently being piloted in six regions and is gradually expanding its reach nationwide.

“The National Rental Assistance Scheme, established by the Government in 2023 as a social housing programme, aims to facilitate access to rental properties for qualifying beneficiaries by providing rent advance,” he said.

“In 2025, the Scheme successfully facilitated the payment of rent advance for 2,031 Ghanaians across its six operational regions, bringing the cumulative number of beneficiaries since inception to 4,732,” he continued.

Adjei added that the pilot programme is operational in the Greater Accra, Ashanti, Eastern, Western, Bono East and Northern Regions.

“The Scheme is currently being piloted in six (6) Regions namely Greater Accra, Bono East, Northern, Eastern, Western and Ashanti Regions,” he noted.

The Minister further revealed that the government has recorded a disbursement recovery rate of about 99 percent, indicating that nearly all funds advanced to beneficiaries are being repaid.

“I am glad to state that so far, the disbursement recovery rate is about 99%, indicating that the government’s seed money is fully recoverable and in circulation,” he disclosed.

The Minister noted that the strong repayment figures and positive beneficiary outcomes demonstrate the effectiveness of the initiative in addressing housing challenges and improving living conditions.

“The programme’s eligibility criteria, application process, and beneficiaries’ success stories highlight its effectiveness in addressing housing needs and enhancing community well-being and government is poised to take the necessary steps in the short to medium term, to scheme up the operations of the Scheme across all sixteen (16) Regions of the country,” he concluded.
