Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced the completion of arrangements for the promotion of qualified staff from the Deputy Director rank to the higher grades of Director II and Director I.
In a statement issued by the Service on Wednesday, January 28, GES said the move is aimed at addressing long-standing concerns regarding career progression within the education sector and forms part of broader efforts to improve conditions of service for teachers and education administrators.
According to the statement, a committee established to oversee the promotion process has submitted its final report to GES Management.
The committee was made up of representatives from the Ghana Education Service, the Public Services Commission, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
“The Committee, comprising representatives from the Ghana Education Service, the Public Services Commission, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, and PricewaterhouseCoopers, has submitted its final report to GES Management,” the statement read.
GES noted that the process was preceded by extensive consultations with key stakeholders, including teacher unions, whose inputs and reviews played a significant role in shaping the final recommendations.
“As part of the process, extensive consultations were undertaken with all relevant stakeholders, with significant reviews and inputs from the Teacher Unions,” the statement said.
Following the completion of these arrangements, Management indicated that the first call for applications, together with the aptitude test for promotion to the ranks of Director II and Director I, is expected to be announced by the end of the first quarter of the year.
GES further announced that promotion to these senior ranks will no longer be dependent on the availability of limited office vacancies, a practice that had constrained promotions in the past.
The Service said the new approach aligns with a commitment made by President John Dramani Mahama to improve career advancement opportunities for teachers.
“This is in line with the commitment made by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama to teachers.”
The Ghana Education Service assured staff and the general public that further details and guidelines on the promotion process would be communicated in due course through official GES channels.
“Further details and guidelines will be communicated in due course through official GES channels only,” the statement concluded.
