The Asokwa Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region has appealed to government to relocate the regional hospital from Atonsu Agogo in the Asokwa Municipality to the officially designated location at Sawua in the Bosomtwe district, so as to make room for the construction of a befitting municipal hospital to extend primary healthcare access to the people.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Amoh Kamel, made the appeal at Asokwa during inauguration of the Asokwa Health Centre.

He said the Assembly is working hard to extend primary healthcare access to the people and appealed to the Ministry of Health to relocate the Regional Hospital.

“I’m still pursuing with the Ministry of Health to relocate the Regional Hospital from Kumasi South to Sawua so that, we can convert that facility into the Asokwa Municipal Hospital so as to expand our access to healthcare”, the MCE said.

The MCE disclosed plans to build similar facilities within the Municipality before the end of this year.

The Asokwa Health Centre has a consulting room, pharmacy, female ward, male ward, delivery ward as well as lying-in ward for mothers and their newborns before their discharge.

The project was initiated and funded by the Member of Parliament for Asokwa, Madam Patricia Appiagyei, who is also the Deputy Minority Leader in Parliament.

She undertook the project using her share of the MPs’ Common Fund; and this was in response to a request made by the community, through their chiefs.

“It takes extreme caution for an MP to do anything meaning from the Common Fund since it is meagre. I’ve purposed to spend it in providing each of the 12 Electoral Areas in the Asokwa Constituency with a Health facility befitting its status”, the MP assured.

The Chief of Asokwa, Nana Fe Bamoah provided the land, free of charge, for the project, considering the importance of a health facility to a community’s well-being.

He explained “You must all be aware of what I intended for this piece of land. However, I couldn’t resist the request by Mama Pat. Health is a universal imperative for everyone hence my change of plans for it.

I freely gave out this land at an absolute no cost to anyone. I know this Health Centre will benefit not only residents of Asokwa, but those of surrounding communities such as Ahinsan and Atonsu.”

Nana Fe Bamoah used the opportunity to advocate for a closer and mutually relationship between politicians and traditional leaders at all times.

The Ashanti Regional Chief Nurse of the Ghana Health Service, Madam Ama Antwiwaa entreated the community and the staff of the health facility to live in harmony.

She pledged the commitment of the Ghana Health Service to regular maintenance of the Health Centre to achieve its goals.

The health centre is built to operate 24 hours uninterrupted.
