Senegalese duo, Iliman Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr
Senegalese duo, Iliman Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr have been hit with the gavel of the Disciplinary Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for their misconduct in the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Crystal Palace and Everton wingers who were both integral in the Terenga Lions’ 2025 AFCON victory have been slapped with a two-game ban each by CAF.
CAF imposed the aforementioned sanctions on Sarr and Ndiaye after the Disciplinary Board reviewed incidents from the heated final that officials say violated the provisions of the CAF Disciplinary Code.
According to the statement released by the continental football governing body, both players were found guilty of unsporting behaviour towards referee Jean-Jacques Ndala of the Democratic Republic of Congo during the final and will miss two official CAF matches as a result.
About the Game
Ismaila Sarr’s goal was disallowed after the referee ruled that there had been a foul on Achraf Hakimi prior to the cross that led to the goal.
In a dramatic turn of events, the host nation was awarded a penalty in the dying minutes of added time when Brahim Díaz was brought down in the box by a Senegalese defender.
Despite the controversy, Díaz missed the penalty, as his Panenka attempt was easily saved by Édouard Mendy, sending the game into extra time.
In the early stages of the first half of extra time, Pape Gueye struck a powerful shot into the top corner from the edge of the box to secure a 1–0 victory.
