The Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has rejected a request by Ayawaso East parliamentary aspirant, Hajia Amina Adam, to be vetted virtually ahead of the party’s primaries.

The request, submitted on her behalf on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, cited her mourning period and observance of Islamic widowhood rites following the death of her husband, the late Ayawaso East Member of Parliament, Nasser Toure Mahama.

Speaking to journalists during the vetting exercise, the Deputy Director of Elections and IT of the NDC, Madhi Jibril, explained that although aspirants are permitted to make special requests, the committee declined the appeal to ensure consistency in the vetting process.

According to him, party leadership was concerned that granting virtual vetting could set a precedent that might complicate future exercises.

He stressed that the decision was not targeted at any individual but was taken in the broader interest of the party and its internal processes.
