Air Tanzania Commences Flights to Ghana

The Tanzania national carrier, Air Tanzania, officially commenced flight operations to Ghana, with the launch of its Dar es Salaam/Lagos/Accra route at Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

The aircraft was welcomed with a symbolic water cannon salute and cultural display by the Ghana Airports Company on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.
Present at the event were high-profile dignitaries, including the Minister for Transport, Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe (MP), Hon. Dzifa Abla Gomashie, Minister for Tourism, Mrs Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, Managing Director of Ghana Airports Company Limited, Rev. Stephen Wilfred Arthur, Director General of Ghana Civil Aviation Authority.

The Tanzanian delegation was led by Hon. Prof Makame Mbarawa, Minister of Transport, Tanzania and His Excellency Selestine Gervais Kakele, High Commissioner of the United Republic of Tanzania to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, among others.

Also present at the event were Airline Representatives, stakeholders, and a cross-section of staff.

In a post, the airline said it intended to connect East Africa and West Africa.

“We are thrilled to say ‘Akwaaba’ as we connect East and West Africa directly from JNIA Terminal 3. This isn’t just a flight; it’s a bridge connecting cultures, businesses, and people. Africa is truly connected with Air Tanzania.”

Air Tanzania will operate 3-day weekly flights on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
