Seized narcotic drugs and cannabis valued over 3 million Ghana Cedis destroyed

The Drug Enforcement Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command has destroyed a quantity of narcotic drugs and cannabis seized over the past two years from drug traffickers and iliigal drug peddlers valued over three million Ghana Cedis.

They included tramadol, aphrodisiacs,and opioid.

The destruction of the substances forms part of ongoing efforts to break up distribution operations of drug traffickers and protect communities from the harmful effects of illicit drugs use. It took place at the Kaasi refuse dumping site in the Asokwa municipality and was supervised by representatives from the Food and Drugs Authority, the Narcotics Control Commission and the Environmental Protection Authority.

The destroyed narcotic drugs included tramadol, opioid and afrodisiacs.

Speaking to GBCNEWS, the Ashanti Regional Drug Enforcement Unit Commanding Officer, ASP Frazer Mutakor assured of the readiness of his outfit to step up efforts in the fight against the distribution and sale of illicit drugs within the region.

“Let me state that we will not relax with this fight we will continue with it until we have been able to bring it under control. Not long ago that we storm the Manhyia area popularly known as Tinka Island where arrested some illigal drug peddlers” he indicated.

The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Osei Akoto Atta appealed to residents to volunteer credible information that will assist the police to efficiently crack down on drug traffickers operating within the region.

“It is the use of this drugs that is creating a lot of criminals in our communities so what we want to is that we want to begin given education on the dangers of this drugs stating from schools and so we will continue to seek the support of the public in this course” he emphasized.

 The Regional Police Command continues to conduct swoops to rid areas like Tinka Island in Kumasi of narcotic drug peddlers.
