The Member of Parliament for Sissala East, Mohammed Issah Bataglia, has provided financial support to 291 students across the constituency to enable them pursue their education.
The initiative, dubbed the Bataglia Educational Support Scheme (BESS), is aimed at easing the burden on needy but brilliant students and ensuring they are not forced to abandon their academic pursuits due to financial constraints.
Under the first disbursement, beneficiaries drawn from universities as well as technical and vocational institutions received support ranging between GH₵1,000 and GH₵3,000, based on clearly defined academic performance and need-based criteria.
Speaking at the disbursement ceremony held in Tumu, the MP, Mr. Bataglia, described the scheme as a well-structured and sustainable initiative, stressing that it would not be a one-off event.
“I must say that the turnout, the organisation, and the overall success of today’s programme exceeded my expectations. I am deeply encouraged by the hope I saw in the faces of our students and the confidence they expressed in the future. This initiative would not have been possible without the collective commitment of contributors and donors who chose to invest in the future of our students. I acknowledge the board members, the selection committee, and all individuals whose insight, diligence, and integrity shaped this process,” he said.
The legislator also expressed gratitude to parents, guardians, and residents of the constituency for their trust and support.
“Together, we will continue to invest in education, empower our youth, and build a stronger Sissala East for generations to come,” he added.
For the beneficiary students, the support comes as a major relief, with many describing it as a lifeline that has revived their educational hopes. They commended the MP for the initiative and appealed for its sustenance and expansion.
