The Chairman of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Elections Committee, Joseph Osei Owusu, has announced the reinstatement of 58 TESCON youth organiser delegates who had earlier been removed from the list of voters for the party’s upcoming flagbearer election.

The decision to exclude the delegates had reportedly been agreed upon by the flagbearer hopefuls, but the matter did not end there.

Following a formal petition submitted to the National Executive Committee (NEC), the Elections Committee reviewed the situation and has now reversed the earlier decision, restoring the delegates to the official voting list.

Speaking on Onua FM on January 28, 2026, Osei Owusu stressed that the committee is determined to run a credible and well-controlled election, with strict rules to protect the integrity of the process.

“No delegate will be issued accreditation. Every person must bring either their party card, voter ID, Ghana Card, passport, or driver’s license,” he stated.

He also announced that mobile phones will not be allowed inside voting booths, a move aimed at preventing disruptions and possible breaches of voting protocol.

On the issue of proxy voting, the Elections Committee chairman made the party’s position clear: there will be no proxy voting under any circumstances.

“There will be no proxy voting during these primaries. Any delegate in the diaspora who wishes to vote must travel home and vote in person,” he said.

The measures, according to him, are intended to ensure a transparent, orderly and credible process as the NPP prepares for one of its most important internal elections ahead of the 2028 general polls.
