The Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service has launched a manhunt for a robbery leader in possession of two Service Ak-47 rifles.
Identified as Hoyefi, he is said to be on the run with two other suspects.
At a presser on January 29, 2026, the Director General of the CID, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, said efforts have intensified to get them arrested.
According to the CID boss, Hoyefi, alongside other suspects, took the rifles during a simultaneous attack on the Nkasem Police Station, Adwumapa Cocoa-buying company, Cobby Gold-buying Company and the Asutifi Rural Bank area at Nkasem in the Ahafo Region on December 2, 2025.
They reportedly blocked the Goaso-Tepa road.
During the attack, the assailants made away with two Ak-47 service rifles from the police station, GHc14,000 from the cocoa-buying company, Ghc12,000 from the gold-buying company and an undisclosed amount from the rural bank.
An employee of the Adwumapa Cocoa-buying company also sustained a gunshot injury.
Arrest
Following sustained intelligence gathering and investigation, five suspects identified as Mutar Kofi, Mahamudu Sagio, Shaibu Issah, Abdul Suleman and Bukari Sule were arrested on separate days in connection with the robbery.
The CID reports that the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit first arrested Mutau Kofi, a tricycle rider, on January 16, 2026, at a location known as Ata ne Ata near Nkasem during which he admitted his involvement in the robbery.
Further investigation led to the arrest of Suspect Mahamadu, an illegal miner; Suspect Shaibu, a trader; and Suspect Addo, a herdsman.
On January 25, 2026, one other suspect, Bukari, a trader, was also arrested.
Two other suspects on the police list in connection with the robbery are Dauda and Mohammed Ali.
