Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh aka Napo has revealed that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia encountered significant opposition following his decision to choose him as his running mate.

Speaking on the Oyerepa Breakfast Show, Dr. Prempeh disclosed that the choice was not universally accepted within political circles, a development he believes contributed to resistance against Dr. Bawumia’s leadership ambitions.

“The future is very bright, and it is even brighter under Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. I know that electing me as his running mate was not liked by many, and that is why some are against him,” he stated.

Despite the opposition, Dr. Prempeh said the former Vice President remained resolute and refused to bow to pressure, demonstrating what he described as strong leadership and decisiveness.

“But he stood his ground and maintained his decision. Bawumia is not a weak person as some perceive. When he decides to do something, he carefully considers the implications, the merits and demerits, and once he is convinced, he acts on it,” he explained.

Dr. Prempeh further noted that Dr. Bawumia’s confidence in his abilities reflects the Vice President’s grounded nature and leadership principles.

“If not for the fact that he is a grounded person, I would not have been elected by him to be his running mate,” he concluded.

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s comments come amid ongoing political discussions surrounding the NPP Presidential Primaries on Saturday, 31st January 2026.
