There was chaos at the Ho Central Market (Asigame) last Saturday when some recalcitrant traders took over the market’s car park and set up stalls to sell their goods.

This was in defiance of the municipal assembly’s directive to the traders to keep off the car park.

As a result, humans and cars competed for space, bringing discomfort to members of the public who went to Asigame on the market day.

Consequently, the assembly engaged the police to move the traders away from the car park.

Later in the day, however, the traders returned to the car park with their goods.

When contacted, the Ho Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Stephen Adom, said the traders were offered spaces in the market to sell their merchandise, for which reason they have no reason to invade the car park.

He said the assembly would adopt every lawful measure to keep them off the car park.

The MCE said the assembly would not compromise its stance to keep the market clean and orderly all the time.

Meanwhile, Mr Adom said work was set to commence on the 24-Hour Economy market project at Tritinu, near Ho, a move he said would decongest the central market significantly.

He said the market at Tritrinu would have ample spaces for the sale of cereals, livestock and other items.

“We must keep our market sparkling all the time,” Mr Adom maintained.

Some of the market women who spoke to the Daily Graphic said they were unwilling to move to the space offered to them in the market by the assembly because it was too close to the market deity, “Hosi.”
