The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced plans to deploy franchise officers across all its district operational areas nationwide from February 2026, in a move aimed at improving service delivery and operational efficiency.

In a public notice dated Friday, January 30, ECG said the initiative is designed to bring its services closer to customers while strengthening revenue mobilisation and monitoring.

According to the company, the franchise officers will be responsible for reading postpaid meters, checking the integrity of prepaid meters and distributing postpaid bills to customers.

The officers will also print postpaid bills using handheld devices through spot billing, assist customers to pay their bills via the ECG Power App or the short code *226#, and disconnect customers whose accounts are in arrears. ECG stressed that franchise officers are not permitted to accept cash payments.

Additional duties will include identifying and reporting all forms of illegal electricity connections and related activities to the appropriate authorities for enforcement action.

ECG advised customers to verify the identity of franchise officers by checking their official identification cards and signed authorisation letters, which will include contact details of the respective district offices.

The company said the franchise arrangement is intended to ensure ECG services are delivered directly to customers’ doorsteps, improve accountability and enhance overall customer experience.
