Former Assin Central MP and New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, says he is confident the party’s ongoing presidential primaries will be conducted fairly.

Speaking to Channel One TV at a polling centre in Assin Central in the Central Region, Agyapong said he does not anticipate a recurrence of the challenges that characterised the party’s 2023 presidential primary.

“I don’t think there will be a repetition of what happened in 2023. We hope it doesn’t happen. We have all done our job well to prevent rigging and everything, so I expect a fair contest,” he stated.

Agyapong said he would work to unite the party should he emerge victorious, stressing the importance of cohesion ahead of the 2028 general elections.

“If I’m the winner, I will be able to bring the party together,” he said.

He further noted that irrespective of the outcome, party unity must be preserved, adding that internal contests, though sometimes heated, should not lead to divisions.

“Sometimes contests get tough and some words are used which are not palatable, but we have to take it as it is. That doesn’t mean we should leave the party,” he added.

The former lawmaker also appealed to delegates to vote massively for him, urging them to “vote number one.”

The NPP presidential primaries are currently underway across the country.
