The State Housing Company Limited (SHC) has inaugurated a 24-hour premium and express service centre as part of measures to improve service delivery, strengthen customer confidence and align public housing administration with the government’s 24-hour economy policy.

The facility, which operates day and night, would provide round-the-clock customer support, instant inquiries, real-time assistance, premium client services and one-on-one consultations.

It will also offer dedicated support for estate purchases, project updates, document processing and research, with clients receiving continuous updates on the status of their applications until completion.

The centre, which was commissioned at the SHC head office in Accra on January 29, was named after the late Dr Samuel Sarpong in recognition of his contribution to the company.

Government policy

At the inauguration of the facility, the Minister of Works, Housing and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, said the initiative reflected the government’s commitment to transforming public service delivery in line with national development priorities under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama.

He said the 24-hour economy policy was aimed at ensuring that the country’s economy operated continuously and efficiently to support growth, job creation and improved living standards, adding that “housing was central to the success of the 24-hour economy, as workers and businesses required secure and timely access to housing services regardless of time constraints”.

Mr Adjei said the policy required a shift from rigid operational systems to more responsive and flexible service models, adding that public institutions had a role to play in aligning their operations with the policy.

The minister said the new service centre would address challenges faced by citizens, particularly shift workers, who were unable to access housing services within traditional working hours.

Mr Adjei urged management of the centre to ensure that the centre was adequately staffed, properly resourced, and continuously monitored to maintain high standards of professionalism and efficiency, adding that the success of the centre would be measured by the quality of service delivery and consistency rather than the length of operating hours alone.

Shift in operations

The Legal Counsel to the President, Marietta Agyeiwaa Brew, described the inauguration as evidence of a shift in how the State Housing Company conducted its business under the current board and management.

She said housing decisions were time-sensitive and required efficient and predictable service delivery, adding that the 24-hour premium and express service should be seen as an enabler for the economy rather than a luxury.

Ms Brew said the centre would provide clearer processes, predictable timelines and professional support at all hours, supported by improved systems and well-trained staff.

She said the initiative would help strengthen trust between the public and the company, adding that feedback from users would be used to improve service delivery across all departments.

The Managing Director of SHC, John S. Bawah, said the inauguration formed part of a medium-term strategic plan developed after management assumed office in 2025 to improve housing delivery and administrative services.

He said the company’s mandate extended beyond the construction of houses to include efficient administrative services around home ownership and the effective use of state assets.

Mr Bawah revealed that more than 300 housing units were scheduled for completion across the country by the end of 2026, while plans were advanced for urban redevelopment projects at Kaneshie, Kanda, Adenta and Effiakuma estates, expected to add over 500 housing units to the national stock in the short to medium term.

He said SHC was preparing to launch the Dedesua Housing Project in Kumasi in the first half of the year, a large-scale development expected to deliver over 1,000 housing units with supporting infrastructure.

On estate management, he said the company had renewed head leases for five key estates—Teshie-Nungua, Achimota, North Labone, East Cantonments and Kaneshie—adding that enforcement action would be taken against unauthorised occupation of State Housing assets.
