Newly elected flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), former Vice President of Ghana Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has pledged to work closely with party leadership to restore discipline and unity within the party as it prepares for the 2028 general elections.

Speaking after being officially declared winner of the NPP presidential primary held on Saturday, January 31, Dr Bawumia said discipline would be central to rebuilding trust, strengthening internal cohesion, and positioning the party for victory in 2028.

“I will work with party leadership at all levels to bring discipline to our party,” Dr Bawumia told party supporters, stressing that unity and order are critical to the NPP’s electoral fortunes.

He called on supporters of all aspirants to put aside differences arising from the contest and rally behind a common purpose, reminding members that internal divisions could undermine the party’s chances in the next general election.

Dr Bawumia won the primary with 110,643 votes, representing 56.48 per cent of the total votes cast, defeating Kennedy Agyapong, Dr Bryan Acheampong, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong in a contest that party officials described as largely peaceful, transparent, and well-organised across the country.
