Jordan Ayew missed a penalty against Charlton

For a player long regarded as one of the most reliable spot-kick takers for club and country, Saturday, January 31, 2026, marked an unfamiliar moment for Jordan Ayew.

The Black Stars captain missed a penalty during open play for the first time in his senior club career as Leicester City fell 2-0 to Charlton Athletic at the King Power Stadium.

With Leicester already trailing and reduced to 10 men following Caleb Okoli’s early red card, Ayew had the perfect opportunity to spark a comeback in the 56th minute.

Abdul Fatawu had been pulled back inside the box, and there was little doubt over who would step up.

But Ayew, calm and composed as ever, placed the ball down with the confidence of a man who rarely gets it wrong from 12 yards.

Yet this time, it did not go according to script.

His effort struck the post, leaving Charlton goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski relieved and the home crowd stunned.

It was a rare blemish for a forward known for his precision and nerve in high-pressure moments.

Ayew has previously missed in a penalty shootout, but until Saturday, he had maintained a perfect record from the spot during regulation time for both club and country.
