Founder and Leader of Spiritlife Revival Ministries, Prophet Bernard Elbernard Nelson-Eshun, has called on his congregation to hold him to the “highest standard of integrity and accountability” following Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s victory in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries.
Addressing worshippers during church service on Sunday, Prophet Elbernard said he had much to say concerning recent developments but would return to address the matter fully at a later time. “I have so much to say, but I will be back,” he told the congregation.
In a reflective and measured address, the prophet referenced his own writings on prophetic accountability, citing a chapter in his book The School of Prophecy, which was written several years ago and released last year. According to him, Chapter 16, titled “When a Prophet Misses It”, outlines the steps and responsibilities a prophet must take when a prophetic declaration fails.
“I outlined what must happen and what must be done when a prophet misses a prophetic word,” he explained.
Prophet Elbernard stressed that he was not seeking sympathy or encouragement from his followers, drawing applause from the congregation as he declared, “I am not the type of pastor who needs encouragement, because I am already an encouragement.” Instead, he urged church members to demand integrity and accountability from him.
“I need you, as a member of this family, to hold me up to integrity and hold me up to whatever I say the Lord said,” he said. “I need you to hold me up to that realm of accountability.”
He further revealed that he has submitted himself to the principles outlined in his book and has already taken concrete steps in line with them. These include the release of two formal statements: a public apology acknowledging a failed prophetic declaration regarding the NPP presidential primaries, and a separate statement of accountability.
The remarks come days after Prophet Elbernard publicly apologised for inaccurately prophesying that businessman and politician Kennedy Ohene Agyapong would emerge as the NPP’s presidential flagbearer. That prophecy, made during a widely publicised 31st night crossover service and in various media engagements, did not materialise following Dr Bawumia’s win in the party’s primaries.
Prophet Elbernard’s latest comments signal a continued effort to address the controversy with transparency, while reigniting broader public discussion about prophetic responsibility, accountability, and the influence of religious declarations in Ghana’s political space.
