Apostle Eric Nyamekye, the Chairman and General Overseer of the Church of Pentecost, has urged President John Dramani Mahama to carefully consider the National Cathedral project’s destiny. During the previous president’s swearing-in, he spoke with Oyerepa FM and asked the government to make a thoughtful decision about the controversial development
Apostle Nyamekye recommended that the Mahama administration consider whether funding the cathedral is the best use of national resources or if Ghana would be better served by rerouting monies to other vital sectors. He stated that the wellbeing of the country is his first priority while keeping impartial on the choice itself. “The impact on the nation and the way its residents live is what really matters, not whether the cathedral is finished or the location is used for something else. Bricks and mortar do not ensure God’s presence, he pointed out.
Additionally, he highlighted the financial contributions already made to the initiative and cautioned that giving it up could not be worth the money already spent. But he said it should proceed if finishing the cathedral serves the general population.
Launched during a previous administration, the National Cathedral’s enormous cost and symbolic importance have generated controversy. As stakeholders and residents wait for the Mahama government to provide guidelines on how it intends to manage the project properly, Apostle Nyamekye’s remarks have rekindled public debate.
