Anthony Karbo, a member of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team, has dismissed claims of an alleged plot to remove Alexander Afenyo-Markin as Minority Leader in Parliament, describing such reports as false and misleading.
Speaking with Kwesi Parker Wilson on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, Mr. Karbo said there is no intention within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to oust Mr. Afenyo-Markin from his position, urging party members and the public to disregard the speculation.
“Nobody is planning to oust Afenyo-Markin from Parliament as Minority Leader. Such claims must be ignored. Those peddling such falsehoods are evil and do not want the NPP well,” he stated.
Recent media reports and political commentary have suggested that some factions within the NPP were considering moves to change the party’s leadership in Parliament following internal political developments and the party’s reorganisation efforts after the 2024 general elections.
However, Mr. Karbo stressed that the allegations are unfounded and risk creating unnecessary tension within the party. He noted that the NPP remains focused on unity, discipline, and rebuilding ahead of future elections.
He further cautioned party supporters against amplifying rumours that could undermine cohesion in Parliament and weaken the party’s position as the Minority.
Afenyo-Markin, who represents the Effutu Constituency, currently serves as the Minority Leader and has been a key figure in leading the NPP’s legislative agenda in Parliament.
