As some young members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) held a protest to voice their disapproval of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the Tamale High Court order that had previously invalidated the results of the 2024 parliamentary election, tension erupted in Kpandai in the Northern Region.

Wearing party colors and carrying signs, the demonstrators marched down several of the town’s main thoroughfares while shouting slogans and calling for what they called “justice and fairness” in the election process.

According to the marchers, the Supreme Court’s verdict has destroyed their hopes of a legal redress following the High Court’s previous judgment. They claimed that the first decision had reassured them that their worries regarding the election’s result were being taken into consideration.

The group has urged the party’s national leadership to promptly request a review of the Supreme Court’s ruling because they feel that the most recent ruling undermines their efforts. Speaking with our Northern Regional Correspondent, Baba Kamil, several of the resentful young people stated that they won’t back down until the issue is reexamined.

They emphasized that in order to preserve the integrity of the democratic process and guarantee that the opinions of their supporters are not ignored, a new legal challenge must be pursued. Additionally, the demonstrators called on party leaders to take immediate action to stop more grassroots unrest. The demonstrators said they are still optimistic that the party leadership will respond to their appeal and take the required legal action to overturn the decision.
