The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has congratulated the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on its successful presidential primary, which saw former Vice-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, emerge as the party’s candidate for the 2028 presidential election.
“We hereby offer our congratulations to the opposition New Patriotic Party on the successful organisation of a violence-free presidential candidate primary,” the NDC said in a statement signed by its National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah.
The party also commended the Ghana Police Service for its role in securing the process.
“We take this opportunity to also commend the Ghana Police Service for the remarkable and efficient manner that they secured the entire process,” the statement read.
The NDC emphasised the importance of collaboration among political parties to strengthen Ghana’s democracy.
“We welcome the collaboration and participation of the NPP and all other political parties in our collective national quest to strengthen and deepen our democracy,” the party said.
The NDC also welcomed the concession statements from the unsuccessful candidates, saying, “We have also taken note of the reconciliatory concession statements from the other unsuccessful candidates, and hope that they will walk their talk.”

Dr Bawumia polled 110,643 votes, representing 56.48 per cent of the total votes cast to win the flagbearer elction of the NPP.
Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, came a distant second with 46,554 votes, representing 23.76 per cent, while MP for Abetifi and former Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr Bryan Acheampong, finished third with 36,303 votes, representing 18.53 per cent.
MP for Bosomtwi and former Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, and former General Secretary of the party, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, polled 1,999 votes, representing 1.02 per cent, and 402 votes, representing 0.21 per cent, respectively.
