The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has fulfilled a promise he made to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) by donating computers to the Corporation.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin presented 10 laptops to the Digital Platforms Department and 10 desktop computers to the News Room of GBC on Tuesday, January 3, 2026.
The donation follows a visit by the Minority Leader to the two offices after an interview on GTV’s Breakfast Show on Friday, January 31, 2026, where he pledged to support the Corporation with computers to enhance its work.
Presenting the items, Mr. Afenyo-Markin explained that the initial request from staff was for laptops, but he later learned that desktop computers were also needed.
Presenting the items, Mr. Afenyo-Markin said government budgets may not always cover every sector, and therefore individuals also have a role to play in national development.
“The young men and women said they needed laptops. When I came again, I was told there was also the need for desktops. So this is my own little contribution — 10 laptops and 10 desktops,” he said.
He praised the young staff and volunteers at the Corporation, particularly members of the Gen Z group on attachment, for their dedication and enthusiasm at the digital studios.
“I saw the excellent work being done by these young, ambitious Gen Z volunteers. They are excited about the work they are doing, and it is projecting GBC positively. You are competing fairly with private broadcasters,” he noted.
He also commended GBC for providing a fair and balanced platform for political actors to express their views, describing the role of the Corporation as vital to Ghana’s democracy.
Receiving the computers, the Director of Television, Akushika Acquaye, on behalf of GBC management, thanked the Minority Leader for honouring his promise and described the donation as timely and important to the Corporation’s work.
