Dr Korankye-Sakyi appointed first ADR Centre Executive Secretary

A legal academic and governance practitioner, Dr Francis Kofi Korankye-Sakyi, has been appointed as the first Acting Executive Secretary of the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Centre. 

His appointment by President John Dramani Mahama is in accordance with Article 195(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 129(1) of the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Act, 2010 (Act 798).

In his role as Executive Secretary, Dr Korankye-Sakyi will essentially be the chief executive officer of the centre and will be its public face. He is the principal point of contact between the centre (secretariat), its board and its users.

He will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of the centre and oversee its business, maintaining the register of arbitrators and mediators and also formulate policies for the centre’s management in conjunction with the governing board and implement decisions taken by the governing board.

ADR Centre

The ADR Centre is established under the Alternative Dispute Resolution Act, 2010 (Act 798), to provide for the settlement of disputes through arbitration, mediation, and customary arbitration.

Despite its law promulgated in 2010, its first governing board was constituted in 2024, under the chairmanship of a former Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Jones Victor Dotse.

The ADR Centre is established to bridge the traditional methods of dispute resolution with modern, court-connected, and customary arbitration mechanisms to enhance efficiency in conflict resolution and dispute management.

Dr Korankye-Sakyi is a distinguished legal academic, governance practitioner, and public administrator with over 22 years of experience spanning public service, academia, policy advisory and institutional leadership.

Dr Korankye-Sakyi’s appointment was based on his proven competence, institutional knowledge, and dedication to advancing alternative dispute resolution.

He holds an array of academic and professional qualifications, including a PhD in Law from the University of Ghana School of Law.

He holds a Diploma, LL.B., B.Ed., and M.A. from the University of Cape Coast, as well as an LL.M from the University of Pretoria, South Africa. 

Currently, he is a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Law, University of Cape Coast, and a part-time lecturer at the University of Ghana School of Law, where he teaches commercial law, trade and investment law, competition law, and governance-related courses.

A strong record of research and scholarly publications complements his experience.

As a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (MCIArb), he possesses practical experience in mediation, trade dispute resolution, and international policy advisory work.

These competencies are further strengthened by advanced professional training at Harvard Law School, positioning him well to lead the ADR Centre in accordance with international best practices.
