The Assemblies of God Jerusalem Worship Centre in Accra has climaxed its 30th anniversary celebrations with a renewed commitment to community development and social intervention projects.

The celebration, which happened on the church premises on Sunday (December 21st), highlighted three decades of ministry while deliberately shifting attention to future-oriented initiatives to help the community.

Since the launch of the anniversary celebrations in April this year, the church has carried out activities that directly targeted social needs within its surrounding communities.

These included community kindness evangelism, donations to orphanages, hospital outreach, blood donation exercises and an anniversary seminar.

It was also used to relaunch the ‘Jesus Legacy Project’, which is an ultra-modern temple to accommodate the church’s growing congregation.

Looking ahead

In an interview with the Daily Graphic after the event, the Lead Pastor, Samuel Aboagye, framed the anniversary not as a ceremonial milestone, but as a call to greater responsibility following the church’s sustained presence in the community.

Mr Aboagye said the church planned to prioritise support for senior citizens through regular medical outreach and health screening initiatives.

He also announced plans to establish a Montessori school to extend its reach to families outside the immediate congregation.

He said the idea aligned with the church’s belief in early intervention and holistic development.

“We believe that we can impact children and people who do not come within our scope,” he said.

Mr Aboagye also indicated that the church plans to establish a credit union to support its members and small business owners.

“We are thinking of ways to make our members financially independent so that their businesses can do well,” he said.

Do more

For his part, the General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church, Dr Stephen Wengam, who delivered a sermon as the guest of honour, admonished the church to do more in terms of soul-winning and impact.

He emphasised that God remained future-focused, stating that thirty years of existence marked only a beginning, not an arrival.

Dr Wengam warned that celebrating without measurable kingdom expansion contradicted God’s mandate, which prioritised reaching the lost rather than comforting the saved.

He also urged the church to convert its experience, goodwill and maturity into active evangelism and church planting.

This, he argued, was a sure way to make the needed impact and fulfil the mission of the church.

The event was also used to recognise and appreciate some outstanding members and leaders in the church.
