Popular Ghanaian travel content creator Wode Maya has sparked conversation on social media after he made a post calling for economic independence for citizens.

In a viral post on X on February 2, 2026, he prayed for Ghanaians to have the means to earn their own income.

“May God bless us with the ability to earn our own income so we never have to defend politicians for our daily bread,” he wrote.

His remarks come amid attacks by online ‘foot soldiers’ who are known for defending political parties and personalities on social media for a fee.

His comments come after the NPP held its presidential primary election on Saturday, 31 January 2026, across all regions of Ghana. Delegates from constituencies nationwide cast ballots to choose their flagbearer for the 2028 general election.

Prior to the elections, some personalities voiced concerns over the activities of foot soldiers, who developed a bad reputation for attacking and harassing public figures who are not affiliated with their party or personality online.
