Methodist Church Ghana and the Susanna Wesley Mission Auxiliary in the Kumasi Diocese marked a solemn and inspiring milestone on Saturday with a 25th Anniversary Memorial Lecture in honour of the late Mrs. Agnes Afriyie Amankwah, the first Connexional President and a founding pillar of the women’s ministry.
The event, held at the historic Wesley Cathedral, Adum, brought together church leaders, women’s fellowship groups, and congregants to celebrate the enduring legacy of a woman whose dedication to faith, discipline, and service continues to shape the Methodist community a quarter century after her passing.
Serving as Special Guest of Honour, the Member of Parliament for Bantama, Hon. Francis Asenso-Boakye, delivered a reflective and faith-centred address urging the current generation to move beyond remembrance and embrace imitation of the values Mrs. Amankwah embodied.
Quoting Hebrews 13:7, he reminded the congregation: “Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.”
According to the Bantama MP, the memorial was not merely a moment to look back, but a call to action for Christian women and the wider church to continue building on the foundations laid by the late Methodist leader.
“She did not merely hold a position. She built a movement. She laid foundations that you are still standing on today. The greatest honour we can give her is not words, but continuation,” he stated.
Hon. Asenso-Boakye commended the leadership and members of the Susanna Wesley Mission Auxiliary for preserving and advancing the vision of their founding mother through sustained service to the Church, families, and society.
He also acknowledged the role of women in the church today, highlighting the contributions of his wife, Juliet, President of the Bethany Society, in Accra and his mother-in-law, Grace, a Circuit President, as examples of how the legacy of Mrs. Amankwah lives on through present leadership.
The memorial lecture formed part of activities organised by the Kumasi Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana to honour Mrs. Amankwah’s life and to inspire renewed commitment among women in ministry and church service.
As the Susanna Wesley Mission Auxiliary celebrates this quarter-century milestone, the message from the event was clear: a life devoted to Christ never ends — it multiplies.
