Popcaan visits Cape Coast Castle

Jamaican dancehall artiste Popcaan has paid a visit to the iconic Cape Coast Castle as a reconnection to his heritage.

In a video shared on X, the artiste was seen touring the historic site while being briefed on its history.

He also took part in several activities, including the laying of a wreath and witnessing the pouring of libation.

Clearly moved by the experience, Popcaan shared photos from the visit on his social media page with the caption: “Went to pay respect to my ancestors today in Cape Coast. Remember, we are GREAT because we stand on the shoulders of giants. Black power!”

Cape Coast Castle is one of about forty slave castles built in Ghana by European traders over 400 years ago, used as holding centres for enslaved Africans before they were shipped mainly to Europe and the Americas.

Popcaan’s visit to the Cape Coast Castle was more than a tour; it was a powerful statement symbolising a deep connection to, and acceptance of, his roots and heritage.
