Automotive and heavy equipment company Zonda Tec Ghana Limited will enter a partnership to offer auto-mechanic skills to juvenile inmates of the Senior Correctional Centre in Accra.
It comes after the leadership of the centre, led by Deputy Director of Prisons, DDP Yayra Ashong Mettle, reached out to the company in a push towards the ‘Think Prisons 360 degree’ initiative of the Ghana Prisons Service.
At the meeting, DDP Ashong Mettle stressed the need for inmates to acquire modern auto-mechanic skills by forging an alliance with Zonda Tec while highlighting the flagship initiative as a strategic, transformative agenda to reposition the service as a world-class, humane and development-oriented institution.
The Officer-In-Charge of SCC stated that there is a need to modernise a mechanic shop situated at the Senior Correctional Centre, where juveniles at the facility receive hands-on training in auto mechanics.
The partnership is thereby envisioned to equip the juveniles with viable skills in order to achieve the Ghana Prisons Service’s mandates of reformation and rehabilitation.
The Branch Manager of Zonda Tec, Mr Leon Leon, welcomed the idea, readily accepting the request.
He further committed to discussing the collaboration with management to implement the partnership as he reiterated Zonda Tec’s commitment to trainingthe youth in Ghana to acquire modern auto-mechanic skills.
Think Prisons 360° is built around the concept of the Welfare of Staff and Inmates, Agricultural Mechanisation, Industrialisation, Business and Wealth Creation, and Strategic Relations, targeting special initiatives and interventions.
