NPP Presidential Election Committee commends police for peaceful primary

The Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Election Committee, Joseph Osei Owusu, has commended the Ghana Police Service for its role in ensuring a peaceful and orderly conduct of the party’s recent presidential primary.

Mr Osei Owusu, together with other members of the committee, paid a courtesy call on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and members of the Police Management Board (POMAB) at the Police Headquarters, where he formally expressed the party’s appreciation.

According to the committee chairman, the comprehensive security arrangements put in place by the Police before, during, and after the primaries were critical to maintaining calm across the country.

He noted that the visible police presence at polling centres, effective coordination, and the neutral posture of officers nationwide contributed significantly to public confidence in the electoral process.

“The professionalism displayed by officers throughout the exercise ensured that the primaries were conducted in a peaceful atmosphere,” Mr Osei Owusu stated.

In response, the IGP thanked the chairman and his delegation for the visit and the recognition, describing it as a motivation for the Service.

Mr Yohuno reaffirmed the commitment of the Ghana Police Service to its constitutional mandate of protecting lives and property, and to supporting democratic processes through disciplined, dedicated, and professional policing.

He added that the Police will continue to work with all stakeholders to safeguard peace and security during political activities and elections across the country.
