The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has welcomed the decision by the government to rename the Kotoka International Airport as the Accra International Airport.

The party also wants all state monuments, including buildings, streets and images, associated with Kokoka and other coup plotters to be removed.

According to the party, these measures will deter armed services personnel from considering changing the will of the people.

In a press release, the party’s Communications Director, Osei Kofi Acquah, commended the government of President John Dramani Mahama for its efforts to safeguard Ghana’s democracy.

The release referenced the 1966 coup led by then Col Emmanuel E.K Kotoka, describing it as a “needless coup” that set a bad precedent for the country.
