Scottish Premiership side Dundee United FC have completed the signing of Ghanaian midfielder Emmanuel Agyei from Israeli Premier League outfit FC Ashdod on an undisclosed contract.
Agyei, a versatile midfielder who can also operate at left-back, had been on the radar of the Terrors after the club monitored his progress dating back to his time in the Ghana Premier League.
The former Dreams FC youngster completed his move to Tannadice Park on transfer deadline day, sealing a switch from the Israeli top-flight side to Scottish football.
Confirming the deal in a statement, Dundee United said: “Dundee United are delighted to announce the signing of Emmanuel Agyei on a permanent transfer from Israeli Premier League side FC Ashdod.
The Ghanaian starlet began his career in his homeland with top-flight club Dreams FC, based in the country’s Eastern Region.”
Manager Jim Goodwin highlighted the attributes that attracted the club to the 21-year-old: “Emmanuel is a player whose energy and willingness to play forward quickly caught our attention,” he told the club’s official website.
“He’s comfortable receiving the ball under pressure and has shown he can operate in different roles, whether sitting in front of the backline or playing in a more advanced, box-to-box position.”
Agyei brings significant senior experience, having made over 70 top-flight appearances in Ghana before further developing his game in Israel against strong European opposition.
“His career path shows mental toughness and a willingness to challenge himself in new environments, and that’s exactly the type of character I’m keen to add to my group,” Goodwin added.
“This move represents the next step in his development. He’s still only 21, but he arrives with a clear understanding of his responsibilities and a real hunger to improve. We’re confident he’ll adapt well to the demands of Scottish football and provide energy, composure and athleticism in midfield.”
With the 2026 FIFA World Cup on the horizon, Agyei will be aiming to impress in his debut season in the Scottish top flight as he looks to attract the attention of the Black Stars technical team ahead of the global showpiece.
