A new Governing Council of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), Ghana, has assumed office with a pledge to champion and influence policy reforms for the sector.
The ninth Governing Council of CILT is led by Alhaj Mohammed Saaka Dumba, who takes over from Mark Amoamah, after a four-year tenure as President.
Alhaj Dumba will steer the affairs of the institute for two years and will be eligible for another two-year extension, subject to election.
Speaking at an investiture ceremony of the Governing Council, Alhaj Dumba, who outlined his strategic vision for the institute, said over sixty years, CILT Ghana had played a vital role in the advancement of transport, logistics and supply chain management within the country.
Strategic
As such, he announced that his strategic goal was to strengthen the influence of CILT Ghana in shaping transport and logistics policy, practice and professionalism, not just in Ghana, but across the African continent.
He said this would be done by drawing from his extensive experience in both public and private sectors, as well as from other stakeholders.
With an eye on the rapidly evolving landscape of global supply chains and the mounting demands for sustainability, Alhaj Dumba pledged to prioritise professional excellence.
He added that his administration would focus on enhancing training, certification, and mentorship programmes aimed at positioning CILT as the benchmark for expertise in the industry.
“I plan to position the Institute as a key player in government policy formulation, particularly concerning road safety, fleet management, and sustainable transport systems,” he said, adding that collaborations with agencies such as the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) and the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) would help mitigate road traffic accidents.
He further pledged to promote youth and gender inclusion within CILT, vowing to increase participation of young professionals and women through initiatives such as Women in Logistics and Transport (WiLAT) and the Next Generation special interest groups.
Plans
Alhaj Dumba also announced plans to establish a CILT Northern Section in Tamale and a second section in Tarkwa, aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and membership growth nationwide.
Addressing the challenge of member retention after various membership grades are granted, he proposed the implementation of strategies to ensure continued engagement with the Institute.
“I look forward to working closely with the Governing Council, sister professional bodies, corporate partners, and the entire CILT membership,” he said.
Mr Mark Amoamah commended the new President and his team following a successful election, adding, “You are inheriting an Institute that is vibrant and visible, but the road ahead requires even greater innovation.
“I have full confidence that you will not only maintain our current standards but elevate CILT Ghana to even greater heights.
I remain committed to the success of this administration,” he said.
