Two men have been arrested at the Osu Cemetery for illegally digging a grave. The incident comes as the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly (KoKMA) intensifies efforts to curb unlawful exhumations and the unauthorized sale of burial spaces.
According to a report by myjoyonline on February 8, 2026, the arrests were confirmed by the Assemblyman for the Kinkawe Electoral Area, George Abeiku Annan, who collaborated with the municipal security task force during the operation.
“This action is part of our commitment to restoring order and protecting public cemeteries in the municipality,” Annan said.
The suspects, identified as Eric Annan and Joseph Donkor, were apprehended in the early hours of Friday, February 6, 2026, during a joint operation involving the cemetery caretaker and officers of the security task force deployed at the site.

They have since been handed over to the Osu Police for further investigations and possible prosecution in accordance with the law.
The arrests follow a press conference held on Thursday, February 5, 2026, by the Municipal Chief Executive, during which concerns were raised about increasing incidents of illegal exhumations and the sale of burial plots at the Osu Cemetery.
Subsequently, the Assembly deployed a dedicated security task force to take full control of the cemetery and prevent further violations.
Meanwhile, the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly has reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on unlawful activities at public cemeteries, stressing its resolve to protect the dignity of the deceased and preserve the integrity of burial grounds.
“We will ensure that all illegal and unethical practices are brought to an end,” the Assembly stated.
