The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has constituted a three-member committee to investigate allegations of widespread inducement and vote-buying during its recent parliamentary primaries in the Ayawaso East constituency.
In a statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the party announced the move on Saturday, February 7, 2026, fulfilling an earlier promise to look into the reports that marred the internal election held last Saturday.
The committee will be chaired by veteran politician and former Minister, Mr Kofi Totobi Quakyi, with MP for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariaga and lawyer Emefa Fugah serving as members.
“In line with the Party’s commitment to internal democracy, transparency, and ethical political conduct, the Committee will investigate the allegations and make appropriate recommendations, including sanctions where necessary,” the party’s release stated.
The decision by the NDC to investigate alleged inducement and vote-buying at the Ayawaso East Parliamentary Primaries follows widespread controversy surrounding the conduct of the election.
Concerns intensified after reports emerged that Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed allegedly distributed items including 32-inch television sets and boiled eggs to delegates during the voting process.
These actions, according to party insiders and delegates, were widely perceived as inducements and believed to have influenced the voting pattern at the primaries resorting to his victory.
The committee has a tight deadline, expected to submit its findings by Tuesday, February 10, 2026. Its mandate extends beyond the immediate investigation to propose “sustainable measures and reforms to decisively end the practice of inducement and vote buying” in future NDC internal contests.
“The Party wishes to assure its rank and file, stakeholders, and the general public that it remains committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity in its internal electoral processes,” the statement added, urging supporters to remain calm.
