Ayawaso East vote-buying investigation underway, report due Feb 10

A three-member committee established to probe alleged vote-buying and inducements during the NDC Ayawaso East parliamentary primaries has commenced investigations and is expected to submit its report by Tuesday, February 10.

Inusah Fuseini, a member of the committee, said the team has been tasked to examine claims of vote-buying in the constituency and assess its impact on the credibility of the party’s internal electoral process.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Midday News on Monday, Mr Fuseini explained that the investigation is aimed at safeguarding the integrity of the party’s candidate selection ahead of the national elections.

“We are to investigate the alleged vote-buying in the constituency, its effect on the integrity of the internal electoral process to elect a candidate… and recommend sanctions where people are found to be culpable,” he stated.

Responding to questions about the scope of the probe, Mr Fuseini clarified that the committee will not rely solely on videos or recordings circulating in the media.

He said the team will gather information from multiple sources to establish the validity or otherwise of the allegations.

Mr Fuseini stressed that should the allegations be substantiated, the committee will recommend appropriate disciplinary actions.

“The committee will deliberate on the evidence that is adduced and then recommend appropriate sanctions,” he said.

Mr Fuseini further disclosed that the committee’s work is on a tight timeline, with a final report expected by Tuesday.

The investigation comes amid growing concerns over alleged inducements during the Ayawaso East primaries, a development the party says must be addressed to protect internal democracy and public confidence ahead of the 2028 general elections.
