The Ghana Cyber Security Authority (GCSA) is rallying public support for a safer internet to protect children.
This is the central theme to commemorate Africa Safer Internet Day on Tuesday February 10, 2026, under the theme “Together for a Safer Africa Online: AU Online Safety Policy in Action.”
In a statement, the CSA postulated that safeguarding children online is a shared responsibility for all stakeholders, including parents, teachers, caregivers, civil society organisations, and the media.
It finds the Africa Safer Internet Day as one of the opportunities for intensified awareness creation on online safety for children; a task that the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) cannot handle alone.
This year’s initiative aims to promote the goals of the AU Online Safety Policy, which includes harmonizing legal frameworks, education, and stakeholder capacity building to protect and empower children in Africa who face increasing risks: harmful content, online abuse, sexual exploitation, cyberbullying, privacy breaches, and emerging threats like Al-driven harms.
The Policy establishes key principles such as children’s right to safety, privacy, and online participation, with prime importance attached to children’s best interests and support to Member States to develop strategies and programs to promote child online safety and empowerment.
In accordance with this, the Authority will lead intensified awareness and education efforts targeted at children in schools, churches, and communities.
Meanwhile, it encouraged children, parents, and all caregivers to report any online abuse or challenges they encounter to the CA by calling or texting 292 or WhatsApping 0501603111, or to a trusted adult, such as a parent or teacher.
