Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) has rolled out a revamped version of its SpeedApp, placing stronger security measures at the centre of its digital banking strategy as mobile banking usage continues to rise.
The upgraded app introduces reinforced authentication protocols and strengthened transaction safeguards to better protect customers from emerging digital risks.
The upgrade was driven by the need to deliver a faster, more reliable and secure digital banking experience that customers can trust daily.
Speaking at the launch in Accra, the Head of E-Business at UMB, Tubuor Ofei-Agyeman, said the security-focused revamp reinforces bank’s commitment to safe, dependable digital banking while supporting its promise to help customers bank with confidence.
Stronger protection
Mr Ofei-Agyeman stated that the enhanced security features were designed to give customers greater confidence as digital banking becomes an integral part of everyday financial activity.
He said the revamped SpeedApp includes advanced authentication layers and tighter transaction controls aimed at reducing fraud and unauthorised access.
“This upgrade goes beyond aesthetics and focuses on building a secure digital environment that protects customers while delivering speed and convenience,” he said.
Technological changes
Mr Ofei-Agyeman explained that the upgraded SpeedApp was developed in response to both evolving customer expectations and rapid technological changes in the banking sector.
“Customers want digital banking that is not only fast, but dependable and secure at every point of interaction,” he said.
He said that the new security architecture was built to anticipate risks rather than react to them.
“Our focus is to stay ahead of threats while delivering a seamless experience customers can rely on every day,” Mr Ofei-Agyeman added.

The Head of Corporate Communications at the bank, Edem Knight-Tay, said the relaunch of the SpeedApp aligned the bank’s digital channels with its broader brand and transformation agenda.

With the upgraded app live, she encouraged customers to download or update it to enjoy faster transactions, improved reliability and enhanced security, backed by the stability of a bank with more than five decades of experience.

Ms Knight-Tay said the relaunch underscored UMB’s strategic focus on combining technological innovation with trust to meet the evolving needs of customers.
She said that the bank’s digital transformation extended beyond the SpeedApp, with the unveiling of a fully revamped website designed to deliver a more seamless and engaging user experience.
“The new website strengthened our digital brand presence and competitive positioning by making it easier for customers to access products, services and essential information,” she said.
She added that both platforms served as key touchpoints for digital customer acquisition, engagement and service delivery.
