The Member of Parliament for Bantama Constituency, Hon. Francis Asenso Boakye, along with his colleagues from the Ashanti caucus in Parliament, has called on the government to incorporate the construction and upgrading of a major highway in the Ashanti Region—initiated under the previous administration—into current infrastructure plans.
Speaking to the media at Parliament on Monday, Hon. Asenso Boakye highlighted the strategic importance of the region, describing Ashanti as the country’s second-largest business hub.
He stressed that heavy traffic flows along its roads are largely due to the inadequate state of the existing network, which struggles to handle growing vehicular demand.
“This highway project is not just an isolated development; it forms a critical part of the broader Big PUSH bill passed by our caucus in Parliament. Its completion is essential for improving regional mobility and supporting economic growth in Ashanti,” he said.
The MP further urged that the planned four-tier infrastructural system for the highway should be preserved in its original design and not reduced to a two-tier structure.
He warned that scaling down the project would undermine its effectiveness and the benefits it could deliver to the region’s residents and businesses.
Hon. Asenso Boakye and the Ashanti caucus emphasized the need for sustained investment in the highway to ensure that it meets the growing transportation and economic demands of the region.
