The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has rejected claims that it is selectively targeting the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in its investigations into alleged vote buying.
The Director of Strategy, Research and Communications at the OSP, Sammy Darko, said the office’s decision to probe allegations arising from both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries and the NDC’s Ayawaso East parliamentary primaries was based strictly on law and evidence, not partisan considerations.
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Monday, February 9, 2026, Darko explained that the OSP’s statement announcing the investigations was not intended to single out any political party.
“This statement is not just about what happened at Ayawaso East or the NPP primaries. It is generally to remind Ghanaians that vote buying and vote selling are prohibited by law and that we must refrain from it,” he stated.

He said some critics had misinterpreted the structure of the statement, wrongly suggesting that it focused disproportionately on the NDC.
“In the two paragraphs, you will understand the basis of what we are doing in both instances. I don’t understand how some people read the statement and concluded that one paragraph was for the NPP while the rest was for the NDC. It doesn’t add up,” he said.
Darko explained that the cases were merely presented sequentially.
“It is simply that paragraph one addressed the NPP, paragraph two addressed the NDC, and paragraph three outlined what we are investigating in those instances,” he added.
He further disclosed that one individual received additional mention in the statement due to an alleged assault on an OSP officer during the conduct of official duties at the election.
“We devoted a bit more attention to a particular candidate because that candidate allegedly assaulted an OSP officer in the performance of duty during the election,” he said.
In a statement issued on Sunday, February 8, 2026, the OSP announced that it had commenced investigations into alleged vote buying during the January 31 NPP presidential primaries and the February 7 NDC Ayawaso East parliamentary primaries.
During the NDC primaries in Ayawaso East, reports indicated that some delegates received 32-inch television sets, coolers, and boiled eggs from the camp of Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed.
Similarly, allegations emerged during the NPP presidential primaries that supporters of various aspirants distributed cash to delegates before and after voting, sparking complaints from some delegates who claimed they were left out.
