A taskforce of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has arrested three Chinese nationals and one Ghanaian, allegedly involved in illegal mining activities at Adum Banso K9 in the Mpohor District of the Western Region.
A statement by NAIMOS reported that the suspects were arrested while attempting to flee the scene upon spotting the officials at the illegal mining site on Monday, February 9, 2026, at about 11:20 hours.
The team retrieved their Toyota Highlander with registration No. GS 572-25 and a Mitsubishi Pickup with registration No. GT 3850-13.
It also discovered and opted to immobilise the two excavators by removing their control boards and oil pumps to render the machines inoperative due to the unavailability of lowbed services to convey the excavators away.
Additionally, the task force says it dismantled and disabled other equipment and materials used by the illegal miners at the site.
Suspects
The three Chinese nationals, together with the seized vehicles, were conveyed to NAIMOS Headquarters for further investigations and subsequent handover to the Ghana Immigration Service in accordance with established procedures.
Meanwhile, the Ghanaian suspect, identified as Isaac Armah, believed to be the foreman of the illegal mining site, was handed over to the Mpohor Police Station to assist with investigations and prosecution.
Commitment
The Secretariat, led by the Director of Operations of NAIMOS, Dr Colonel Buah, assured the general public of its resolute and unwavering commitment to its mandate.
It stated that sustained operations continue to disrupt entrenched illegal mining networks that destroy cocoa farms, forest reserves, road infrastructure, and cause severe pollution of the nation’s water bodies.
