Ghana has announced a trade exhibition in Zambia to provide continental exposure to Ghanaian traditions, as they are deeply ingrained in the local fashion industry.

The event is expected to take place in March 2025.

The exhibition is particularly designed to spotlight Fugu and Kente, as part of Ghanaian heritage and culture.

This was announced by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, while outlining the benefits of President John Dramani Mahama’s visit to Zambia last week on the invitation of President Hakainde Hichilema.
According to the Minister, the Trade Exhibition in Zambia follows the tremendous and phenomenal interest of Zambians in Ghanaian traditional outfits and President Hakainde Hichilema’s public expression of his desire to place orders.

On President Mahama’s arrival in the southern African country last Wednesday, Zambians mocked President Mahama’s Fugu outfit, generating global interest.

Social media users described it as a woman’s ‘blouse’, sparking mockery and lighthearted rebuttal from Ghanaians at home.

Addressing the situation during the Ghana–Zambia Business Dialogue, President Hichilema admired Ghana’s embrace of the traditional outfit while underscoring the unbreakable correlation between tradition and economic development.
