President John Dramani Mahama has announced the continuation of the rural electricity program, with allocations made in the budget for rural electrification.
He revealed that, Members of Parliament have begun identifying areas in their constituencies without electricity. He mentioned that, government will use its funds without loans, to connect them to the national grid.
“We are continuing with the rural electricity program.
The Minister made allocation for rural electrification in the budget, so the MPs are looking at areas that are not connected, once that is done, we are using our own funds. We are not taking any loans to do the electrification”, he said.
Local contractors will handle the connections, promoting local economic growth, the President said. He also expressed appreciation for traditional leaders, acknowledging their crucial role in cultural preservation and community development. He pledged to improve their conditions, enabling them to effectively carry out their duties.
