Gideon Peprah was assaulted by some unidentified men during the Council of State elections

Some journalists who were assaulted while covering the Council of State Elections in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, have lambasted authorities over what they describe as a failure to act on the issue.

It may be recalled that GhanaWeb’s Ashanti Regional Correspondent, Gideon Nana Peprah, was attacked by a group of armed men while covering the elections, along with other journalists.

The incident occurred at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council following a violent altercation that left several media personnel injured.

Sharing his ordeal with Etsey Atisu at the time, Peprah recounted how about seven well-built men stormed the venue without provocation and began assaulting electoral officers.

A year after the incident, the journalists have expressed sadness over the authorities’ failure to act. Despite the police mounting a manhunt for the said thugs, no feedback or update has been given.

In a statement released by one of the affected journalists, he expressed worry over failed promises by the authorities stating, “Today (11-02-26) marks exactly one year since I and other colleagues were brutalized at the RCC during the Council of State Election.

“I remember how the Agric-Nzema Chief, Nana Nkansah Boadu, and his team quickly rushed to make a public announcement that they would foot the bills of victims who were hospitalized.

“Sadly, they woefully failed to fulfill that promise. This has since become a tag on us by some media colleagues who claim we were hugely compensated but that has never been the case.”

He added, “I also recall how the Ashanti Regional Minister and his team failed to follow up on the case despite being informed of the incident.

“Furthermore, I remember how the NDC party failed to pursue the matter, even though it was known that these thugs were their own men.”
