Professor Eric Dominic Forson becomes youngest geophysics professor at UG
A senior lecturer at the University of Ghana, Professor Eric Dominic Forson, has been promoted to the rank of Associate Professor at the age of 34, making history as one of the youngest academics to attain such a status in geophysics and geodata analytics.
The move follows the implementation of new governance provisions under the University’s 2024 Statutes.

Prof Forson who is a specialist in Geophysics and Geodata Analytics, was among 20 academics whose promotions were approved by the University’s Appointments Board under the institution’s newly implemented governance framework.
According to a memorandum by the Office of the Registrar of the university, the promotions were effected under Section 86(1a) of the Statutes of the University of Ghana (2024), which empowers the University Council to delegate authority to appoint persons to the rank of Associate Professor, Deputy Registrar, and equivalent positions to the Appointments Board.

“The provision applies to applications submitted for consideration from August 1, 2024, the effective date for the new Statutes,” it stated.
Prof Forson hold a PhD in geophysics and an MPhil in geophysics from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
