Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has urged members of the newly sworn-in Presidential Advisory Group on the Economy to reflect deeply on what the economy truly means to ordinary Ghanaians.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the advisory group on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, she stressed that the economy must not remain an abstract concept discussed only in policy circles but must translate into tangible improvements in the daily lives of citizens.

According to the vice president, a vibrant economy should guarantee stability for teachers in classrooms and nurses on night duty; fair prices and reliable markets for farmers; and predictable costs and access to credit for traders and small business owners.

“As a lifelong teacher myself, I would like to respectfully leave my esteemed colleagues and myself with our first piece of homework. That is, for us to constantly reflect on what the term ‘the economy’ should mean to our fellow citizens.
