Pep Guardiola coaches Semenyo at Manchester City
Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has explained that Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo’s versatility in attack influences his decision to alternate his positions during matches.
Since Semenyo’s arrival at the Etihad Stadium, he has been deployed in multiple roles, including right winger, left winger, striker, and attacking midfielder.
When asked about his approach to using the Black Stars attacker, Guardiola explained that Semenyo possesses numerous attributes that allow him to play in different positions.
Antoine Semenyo makes history
The Spanish manager highlighted Semenyo’s pace, ability to track back, defend and his skills in taking on defenders to score goals as the reasons behind his positional flexibility.
“It’s not a secret. Sometimes you make a player play in a position that requires certain attributes, and he has them. So it’s not more complicated than that. If you need an attacking midfielder or someone to turn and attack the central defender, he has that attribute. To play right, left, both sides, he can do it. As a striker in behind, he can do it.”
“He has incredible skills to do that. And he’s so open-minded, so generous in his effort. When he jumps, the pace he does it with is unbelievable. He also has an incredible sense of goal. These types of balls in the box, the second balls, the chaos, he’s always there. I smell that situation, and he’s really good,” Guardiola told the press.
Semenyo’s performances since joining City have been crucial, often stepping up as a reliable scorer when Haaland fails to find the net.
