National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has cautioned party members not to hold President John Dramani Mahama responsible if they fail to secure ministerial appointments under the current administration.

Speaking during his tour of the Central Region, Mr Asiedu Nketiah emphasised that the party took a deliberate decision to drastically reduce the size of government, limiting ministerial appointments to 60.

“It was our collective decision that Akufo-Addo’s 125 ministerial appointments were too many,” he told party faithful. “Our government will make 60 appointments, so don’t blame Mahama if you don’t get one.”

He stressed that the decision to cap appointments at 60 was not the preference of one individual but a collective resolution of the party, aimed at promoting efficiency and fiscal prudence.

The NDC consistently criticised the previous administration’s 125 ministerial appointments as excessive and financially burdensome.

According to Mr Asiedu Nketiah, reducing the number of appointees forms part of the party’s broader commitment to running a leaner and more cost-effective government.
